Hey, I can see my house from there.

Maybe with a new ice bridge, some new friends may go to and fro betweenst IR & Canada?

johnhens,

your posts always "make my day".

let's hope nature decides the wolves' fate.

climate change(s) in IR favor?

now for some wandering wolves!

I wonder if Winter Study will start earlier this year or go longer (though last year they ended early due to lack of firewood).

Isn't just as likely that the remaining few might decide to leave?

Good point, that happened a few years ago. It will be interesting to see what happens.

HI John,
How can I get a copy of this picture. I find it to be very interesting to see this happening with the glimmer of hope for species survival due to mother nature.

The ice is changing constantly (wind!). The latest MODIS image (1-7-2014) shows a markedly different ice bridge from what you saw a few days earlier.

The Canadians have an excellent ice-condition website that is update daily. Go here to see what Lake Superior looks like as of Monday, January 6th:

The lake is now freezing over at an alarming rate. With COLD weather forecast for at least another week this is interesting.

The cold is good but the wind needs to drop for it to stay. Winds over 20 mph for several days coming to the Isle. That'll break up any ice and push it into the open lake. It's already happened this year

Todays Modis images look like SOLID Ice for the 3rd day in a row.

Hopefully wolves are coming to the island. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some single wolves who leave the island.

Thursday it as white with ice and snow all the way to the north side of the island from the Canadian bay I was in. Friday morning had high SW winds, the ice was moving up and down with the wave action as they passed under me 4 miles out on the lake. Soon the ice bewteen the island and me was nothing but big cresting waves. Still way too much wind, the lake is nothing but steam again out there. Too bad, hopefully the winds will subside long enough to get it locked up with the cold temps. It will take a minimum of 6 days well below freezing with no wind to get enough ice on the lake to keep it from moving and self destructing, that's a tall order though.
