Fishing on Lake Desor
Does anyone fish lake Desor.what does it have for fish? Best bait?
Other fishing hot spots along the Minong trail. Baits? Inland or in the lake?
Just trying to hammer out final details, wondering if it is worth an extra pound or not.

Lake Desor has no fish. The Minong Trail is not known for fishing opportunities.

Years ago, I talked to people that said they pulled some perch out of Lake Desor. There have also been posts here by Bob (Keweenaw) and someone else (can't remember) stating they've caught Whitefish. I do think though that any attempts would be more miss than hit.

Re: Fishing on Lake Desor
I'm a bit late on this, but in doing research on the history of the island since it became a park, I found a reference to Lake Desor having it's own species of Whitefish (Similar to Siskiwit Lake having it's own species) but it died out [cannot remember where off the top of my head]. Everything I have read indicates there are no fish in the lake. From personal experience though, there are plenty of leaches

Re: Fishing on Lake Desor
On my 2011 trip to ISRO, I stayed at both NLD (Minong) and SLD (Greenstone). At both places I saw numbers of stickleback fish (a bait fish) near the shore. However, fishing from the shore might be problematic at best due to the geography (near vertical slopes from the campsites to the lake shore. Fishing might be better if you have a means to float fish (a boat, raft, etc.).
The book Fishes of Isle Royale indicates that at one time there were game fish in Lake Desor; the loons that live there certainly eat the fish in the lake. I will defer to those who indicate that there are no game fish in Lake Desor today.
