Just returned from isle 16th to the 19th, Duncan Bay was breath taking! The bugs were absent on the water and and scant around camp sites! The hiking trail and waters edge around portage trails is where they were most abundant but manageable! NO BLACK FLIES at ALL!
I think early July is gonna be thick, the ranges were saying the inner lakes are just at 50 degrees now, Duncan bay mid 40's and Rock Harbor still in the high 30's for water temps!

Re: Update from 6-16 to 6-19
We were there from 6/13 - 6/19 backpacking and had a similar experience. Really lucked out! They seemed to get worse the further west we got. We ran into a hiker at Todd Harbor who had just come in via the Minong and said it was near unbearable at Little Todd Harbor the night before. They were a bit pesky on the trail, but nothing to even mention. We were so happy!
