Re: Superior Water temps
well... the guy I went with in mid June thought it was warm enough to go swimming. He jumped off the dock in Windigo with a couple of the poeple who were living there. They said it was warmer than the 36 the bouy said, but I dont believe them. They got out supper quick and were hooting and hollering. I doccumented the occasion in case he needs an insanity plea later in life

Re: Superior Water temps
At the end of June, my son jumped in off the Windigo dock, three times. I thought he was nuts. He said it was very cold but felt great. I saw someone else jump in as well.

I was wading at Daisy farm in mid June. Thoughts bought going under but didn't. Some kids went swimming. I didn't take a temp but it felt a lot warmer than 30's.

Re: Superior Water temps
I read something a few days back that Lake Superior is about 5 - 10 degrees colder than it should be for this time of year.
If you want to swim in the lake, it helps to play the wind. Warm water floats, so an onshore wind will blow the warmer water toward shore. An offshore wind blows the warm water out allowing the cold water to bubble up in it's place. Still, even with an onshore wind, this ain't Florida, so don't ever expect to swim in 80 degree bathwater.

Re: Superior Water temps
My brother "swam" every day last week in Superior. I went in once at Chippewa which was the warmest. Yeah, still cold!

Re: Superior Water temps
Shallow water on a southern shore, especially a protected shore, will always be warmer than something out in the lake. Just the sun warming rocks will be good for 5-10 degrees at times. Early spring bass fishing for me consists of targeting shoreline rocks in the sun.

Re: Superior Water temps
Air temperature on the open lake is still quite cold and will feel even colder with any appreciable wind.

It's a spa.
