Rangers at Amygdaloid and Malone?

Post by Ingo »

Anyone know if there's rangers stationed at the Amygdaloid Island and Malone Bay stations this year? Or is the sequestration still in effect?

When I was there 2 weeks ago they said that there were no rangers at either place.Only help would be Rock harbor, Windigo, and Daisey Farm.I believe she sais that there would be no ranger presence there this year.

If you look at the map in the 2014 Greenstone, you will notice that is says that there will be no rangers stationed in either of those places this year.

Too bad. The Amygdaloid rangers were very helpful with an injury on one trip, taking us from Todd to Windigo, and rather reassuring on another, paddling around Indian Pt. in iffy conditions.

They still should have the volunteer that stays at Belle Isle who routinely checks up on people at various campgrounds on the North end. I meet him, but forget his name at the moment. He also is nice enough to refill the toilet paper too at all of the places that he visits. Not sure how well the South is monitored, but I still think Ranger Seth does routine check-ups. I know he came by to Moskey last year when the two ranger stations were abandoned due to a lack of funding. Ranger Seth is an awesome guy. Truly one of my favorite rangers...down to earth and always willing to comment on anything you have a question about. I hope I get to see him this year since all of our travels will involve the south side.

I was under the impression that it was the Sequester that did those two posts in. No Sequester anymore and certainly no budget cuts. What sucked up that funding?

No ranger at Daisy Farm anymore either. He is now working down at Mott Island/Rock Harbor.

The Amygdaloid volunteer you are thinking of Rafiki.. possibly David Trigg? Also... I'm sorry to say but Ranger Seth is not on the island this year.

I guess we have to depend on ourselves and fellow hikers for our personal safety.

I have to wonder? ???? I know they have to have a long line of volunteer people that would man these stations....and most likely jump through hoops to do it! The buildings are there already....being mouse and squirrell chewed. It is my experience that a building not used ,ages far more quickly due to lack of maintenance. Chances are they have to patrol boats just laying around as well.I just find it rather odd.In the Apostles they use volunteers for some of the light houses.....something I wish to do someday :) :) :) I bet we could find volunteers on this forum even :) . ??????Curious??????

Anyone know if Ranger Seth will be back next year or why he wasn't on the island this year? I really liked him a lot!
