Re: Music Playlist for Isle Royale
Looks like you have watched the movie Into The Wild. Possibly most on this forum have.
I will add:
Guaranteed
Long Nights
No Ceiling.
I wish I had a soundtrack of the island to listen to when not there. You know the sound of loons at dusk and maybe some water trickling or slapping the shore. I should say the sounds of the loons from a distance. Have you ever had a loon just outside your tent? Let me tell you it is not so peaceful. They are loud.

Re: Music Playlist for Isle Royale
I'm bringing an old post back!
I'll second anything from the Into the Wild soundtrack and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
And I'll add...
"Camping Next to Water" - Badly Drawn Boy
"Highway 61 Revisited" - Bob Dylan (if you're leaving from Grand Portage)
"Furr" - Blitzen Trapper
"The Wolves (Act I & II)" - Bon Iver
"Your Rocky Spine" - Great Lake Swimmers
"Smokestack Lightning" - Howlin' Wolf

Re: Music Playlist for Isle Royale
Usually a heavy dose of Zach Brown band.
After I cross the Mighty Mac, I play some of Da Yoopers. Usually at least the second week of deer camp and da tirty point buck.
I always save the Edmund Fitgzerald until I come into Munising (the first time I see Gitchigumi). That usually goes to times back to back after I see "the Great Lake".

Re: Music Playlist for Isle Royale
My mix will have The Band, The Beatles, The Grateful Dead and Jimmy Buffett...plus a few odds and ends thrown in for good measure.
Re: Music Playlist for Isle Royale
Arvo Part, Boards of Canada, Mount Eerie, Joni Mitchell, Brian Eno/Robert Fripp, and maybe some Nico. As you can tell, I get my spirituality from backpacking and like my music to suit it.

Re: Music Playlist for Isle Royale
I have never taken music into the wilderness.
However, some of my "Faves" for various other outdoor activities.
Zep, Dylan, the Band, Lou Reed, Bowie, Beatles, Stones, Dave Clark Five - for Rock n Roll.
Buddy Guy, BB King, Eric Clapton, SRV - for blues.
Hank, Patsy, Johnny, Waylon, Willie, Roy Orbison, Dylan Cash and the Nashville Cats - for country.
Pete Seeger, Mark Knopfler - Privateering or Get Lucky albums, Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters - lullaby and the Ceaseless roar album, Plant and Alison Krauss - Raising Sand album, Levon Helm - Dirt Farmer album, on the folk side.
The "Folk" genre is great, my preferred, for hiking, skiing, kayaking.

"And standing on the the crest of the Greenstone Ridge, I suddenly had this desire to retreat north to where I just come, to stay in the backcountry, to spend another day in a place where the only deadline I had was to pitch the tent before dark."

Re: Music Playlist for Isle Royale
Well, I am biased, but my daughter Dana Falconberry is playing Isle Royale on August 2nd this year. She( and her band) are touring the National Park system coinciding with the 100 year anniversary. Her second to last album is called Leelanua and is mainly about songs about Michigan. Her latest " From the Forest came the Fire" has just been released. I have taken her on many hikes including Isle Royale. Her music is nature based with really amazing lyrics. You can check her out on YouTube etc. winder music fir the stars for sure!
