Ranger III's Captain Bill Hanrahan retires
Those who have taken the Ranger III might have had the pleasure of speaking to Bill Hanrahan, Captain of the Ranger III. He retired in December.

Congratulations to Captain Hanrahan. Due to the 6 hour transit time, the Ranger III has never been my favorite ferry trip but I've always had a fond place for the boat as I would watch it often in the Portage Ship Canal when I lived in Houghton. My wife's only trip to The Island was on the Ranger III and if you're not in a hurry it can be quite relaxing and a great experience.
Any word on the Captain's replacement? I've searched but cannot find any news.

As I recall, some months earlier, there was such a position offered through the U S A Jobs site.
"And standing on the the crest of the Greenstone Ridge, I suddenly had this desire to retreat north to where I just come, to stay in the backcountry, to spend another day in a place where the only deadline I had was to pitch the tent before dark."

His business card is in a collection of Isle Royale memorabilia. And yes, it is laminated.
