Reintroduction of Lynx

Interesting article talking about the possibility to consider bringing Lynx back to the island, to coexist with wolves.

I would love to see a lynx in the wild! One of my favorite pictures in my guide to north american mammals is of a lynx hunting in the snow.

The article says, and I've seen it said elsewhere, that the Island's original charismatic megafauna were caribou and lynx. Did the latter hunt the former? (I can't imagine it -- but I don't have a very active imagination.) Why did the caribou give up? Is there ever consideration of re-introducing them?

I asked a ranger this summer about the caribou on Isle Royale -- it seems to me that she said human's hunted them to the point of no return.

I read that part of the caribou's winter forage are lichens anf they are not sufficient in numbers to support a caribou population.
