Mott Island trails
I haven't done the Mott Is. Trails. Can't remember (I'm old) if I've read anyone's report on hiking them. Suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

Re: Mott Island trails
I spent some time there last summer. It was interesting to walk about the 'inhabited" portion of the island; we walked around the operational spaces, near the cabins, playground, etc. We found our way to the bridge to East Caribou, and over to Dollar Bay. Neat to see, as it's the 'industrial' part of the Isle. Plus I finally got to see specifically where that darn webcam is located.
There is a 'nature trail' loop that heads out into the NE portion of the island, and we started down a portion of it. However, weather was continuing to blow in and so we elected to get back to our canoe and over to Daisy before letting the harbor get too rough. It seemed just like another part of the isle/Stoll trail, and short of knowing something historical to go see, was more of just the island norm...

Re: Mott Island trails
I agree. Aside from a pretty little beach at the far end of nature trail it is much like the north side of the Stoll Trail. I don't think I spent more than a couple hours hiking all of it. It was neat to see. one of the residences was gutted and under renovation when I was there. I have a few pictures if you want to see.

Re: Mott Island trails
On a canoe trip a couple years ago I ended up staying at Caribou Island for a night. Caribou has two shelters and is a nice place to stay. While there I canoed to both Cemetery Island and Mott Island. It was worth it to see both islands and hike. I would include it on your trip
While hiking the north side of Mott I was warm and sweaty and the south side was cooler and more comfortable. The view on the south side of Mott was definitely worth it. I remember seeing a bicycle at Mott, which isn't allowed on the rest of the island. The bike belonged to one of the park ranger's kids. I thought how cool it would be to spend summers at Isle Royale while your parent(s) worked.
