What are you spending your REI dividend on? 2020 edition
REI dividend season is March! Anybody have any plans on what they're going to spend theirs on?

Re: What are you spending your REI dividend on? 2020 edition
I think I also said this last year: I'm ready for a new tent! My big agnes Flycreek 1p is getting threadbare, and the older and more decrepit I get, the more attractive a tent with a side entrance becomes.
The Flycreek is semi-freestanding, and has a mostly-mesh inner tent you can use without the rainfly if you're audacious enough to bet against overnight rain. Thanks to this, I was once able to witness the Perseid meteor shower from a slab next to Sequoia National Park's Precipice Lake, made famous by Ansel Adams https://www.christies.com/lotfinder/Lot ... tails.aspx. It felt like there were meteors going off in my head. This has left me irrevocably committed to (semi)free standing double-walled tents with mostly-mesh inners.
What's in the running:
BA Tiger Wall 1p. Concern: a bit leaky?
Nemo Hornet Elite 1p. Concern: also a bit leaky?
Nemo Hornet 1p. Concern: a crushing 2 oz heavier than the Elite.
Here they are in an REI comparison: https://www.rei.com/CompareProduct/User
I'm leaning toward the plebeian Hornet---but I'd be grateful for advice, gut feelings, premonitions, etc.

I was just there today with a $50 gift cert, but couldn't find anything worth buying. I should have a big dividend this year. I finally finished routing all my bills through the card.

Yeti Sidekick waterproof case: https://www.rei.com/product/134626/yeti ... -gear-case.
Should be good for paddling. Waiting on the 20% off deal, then my $28 dividend will kinda mostly cover it.

I just don't know. So many choices. $.30 is a lot of money and I have to choose wisely!

Hmmm. Idk yet. Probably cash it out after replenishing my darn tough sock collection.

Re: What are you spending your REI dividend on? 2020 edition
My wife has been very interested in solar showers ever since she discovered their existence. I'd be curious if anyone has experience with them... are they worthwhile? This could be the key to getting her to try Isle Royale in the spring (rather than our usual August trip, when the lake is at least kind-of swimmable).

dclark, this one has worked well for me. It seems to warm up nicely, and packs small. Plus you can use it as a dry bag when not using it for a shower. I have never used it on Isle Royale, but it has worked well at Voyageurs NP and in the Boundary Waters. Another, lighter option is I bought an extra cap for platypus waterbags, drilled a few holes, and now have a very good shower for the weight of one extra cap. This one works especially well in Windigo, where you can fill the bag with warm water in the restroom and then use it in the shower stalls, without buying a token to make the plumbed hot water turn on. In the backcountry campsites, privacy may be an issue for your wife.

Re: What are you spending your REI dividend on? 2020 edition
dccark, I have the same seat to summit as bobcat1. I bought it only because I had a gift certificate to spend. I have since developed a love for it. it will take 45 degree superior water to truly comfortable in a couple of hours in the sun. if you want it warm faster, dump a couple of cups of boiling water into the bag. I do suggest taking the shower head off, going to the hardware store and getting a replacement o-ring. the instruction say to over tighten the shower head, they mean it, you will cut the o-ring. expect a slow drip when full.

Thanks, Bobcat1 and Base654. That's the one I found on REI's website and wondered how it really worked. Glad to hear it's recommended.

WHERE are you spending your REI dividend?
Through March 27 at least, not *in* the stores. Their online operations continue, with facilities added to deal with questions that would otherwise be asked in-store. They're paying their employees during this closure.
