Thanks to johnhens for initially pointing this out to me. I've added an expanded explanation.

The 2021 Greenstone Newspaper states...

"Cross-Country Camping zones have changed in 2021.
Terrain and vegetation make off-trail hiking and camping difficult. Visit https://www.nps.gov/isro/planyourvisit/ ... amping.htm."

The aformentioned link brings up the Cross-Country Camping regulations page. A link to the NEW Cross-Country Camping Zones map is also provided. https://www.nps.gov/isro/planyourvisit/ ... s_2021.pdf.

Thank you for posting this John! I just read that I suffer from "Island Topophilia!"

In the guidance for camping, I happened to notice a subtle change from the 2019 Greenstone to the 2021 edition.

2019 says “Expect crowded campsites from late July through August.”
2021 says “Expect crowded campsites from mid-July through mid-September.”

I’ve heard that, in general, the national parks were unusually busy in 2020. It looks like 2021 might be busy also.

The Rock Harbor Lodge said that they are already completely booked for 2021.
First visit 1982. Last visit August, 2024. Isle Royale is my favorite National Park!
