Open fires at camp sites- TWIG stoves be used on the Island?

I have read different information regarding open fires at campsites. Are the use of TWIG or Sierra camp stoves....acceptable or not?

I would call the Park Service Hdqtrs and find out for sure.

In 2003 & 2004 I used my Sierra Zip stove and it worked great! I understand that there is an issue with them when a fire ban has been issued,

The Park Service tends to change some rules every year, so I would second johnhens excellent advice and contact the Park Service regarding the 2009 rules.

I just checked with the Park Service & they have no problem with the twig burning Zip Stove on Isle Royale. I was asked about its' performance by an inquisitive ranger when I called. It's great to have fuel waiting at every campsite rather than carry it, especially on longer trips. You can boil water to your hearts content without rationing fuel. By keeping pots & pans in individual stuff sacks, the soot on the pans bottom can be dealt with. I just rebuilt mine & I'll be bringing it again when I'm canoeing there for 2 weeks this June. I only hope my recently rebuilt knee performs as well as the stove!
