The Government finally put its money where it's mouth is and construction on a new dock at Hat Point Marina, home of the Grand Portage Isle Royale Tansportation Line and the trustworthy Voyager II/Sea Hunter, is underway!

Your link answers my question. Steel and concrete works for me. How about the Windigo dock? Its still wood, as I recall.
No plans to replace that, that I've heard. I don't think it needs it, that dock is pretty burly.

The Windigo dock isn't going anywhere anytime soon, it's more stable than our democracy.
It's not Heaven, but they can see IR from there...

Yep, it looked pretty sturdy to me and my buddies last May.

Any pictures of the new dock?
I searched for an update on progress and didn't find anything since the Nov. groundbreaking, where they say Sept for completion. Would also love to see some progress pics.

The only thing I could find is an article and a conceptual image.
Just got back from the dock. What a mess! Old parking area is torn up and temporary parking area has painted lines. Doesn't look like there will be enough parking. Can't get close to the dock, so you'll have to carry your gear through the construction area.
Here's a photo of the new dock, visitors' center and paved(!) parking lot. Looks like quite an improvement over the old wooden dock with its loose boards covering holes...so why am I feeling nostalgic?

Because the adventure started when you set foot on that dock.
