Lake Halloran
I'm going to be on the Feldtman in late June this year and noticed Lake Halloran on the map. I've read what I can find on this site about it, but I'm not seeing a whole lot from the last few years. Anyone know if it's still accessible and how difficult it would be? I understand there used to be a trail, but I'm not sure if it remains, and if so, what kind of shape it's in. I'm almost not sure if it's basically swamp down there. We're not interested in fishing it, just wondering if it's worth a trudge down to see it. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Re: Lake Halloran
The hike back is adjacent to the swamp / beaver flooding outside of Siskiwit camp; I believe it is about 1 mile and a half from camp to the lake. Take the general path of the old trail in, easy hike in/out but might be a bit wet in spots.
There's not much to see, and if you're looking for a hike to see something the Powder House out at Senter Point might be more interesting

Re: Lake Halloran
Thanks for the info. You mention “the trail”. Is there a marked trail, or are there certain landmarks by which I would try to navigate, or do I just leave camp in the general direction of Southwest and hope I see a trail?
Thanks for the tip on the Powder House, too. Something else to consider.

Re: Lake Halloran
There is no trail back, I wouldn't make the trip back without a GPS unless you are very confident with your map/compass land nav skills. The island is nothing but swamps, small ridges and beaver ponds everywhere and "Line of Sight / I think its in this direction" will get you turned around in the bush on the island very quickly.
Try something like this:
The swamp/beaver pond is to your east as you turn off the Feldtmann Ridge Trail to the South (when you walk west from Siskiwit camp you will see where the swamp stops), make your southward turn just as the pond ends on the trail & follow that general direction back. It has been a few years since I was back there but I'd expect the trip back to be wet. I forget what the azimuth I shot was to go back but its not overly difficult. You can use Acme Mapper to create waypoints if you need something to plug into a GPS. While the hike SSW out of Siskiwit camp to the east end is shorter it's nearly an in-penetrable jungle in some places and I wouldn't suggest it. Once summer vegetation is up along the Feldtmann Ridge Trail it might make the hike back less pleasant then my trip back in May.
