the (mildly satanic) Days 22 and 23 mileage coincidence is uncanny!
Malone: I haven't got the Nat Geo map to hand---is the spur trail from the dock to Siskiwit Falls on it? And is there also a mapped spur that visits the lakelet just upstream from the falls? (I hiked the latter the one time I was at Malone, but---due to not paying maps the attention they deserve---not the former.)
Anyway VERY AWESOME! I hope you'll let the forums know if there are ways those who might be on the island during the thorough hike could help with logistics!
A comprehensive question

Malone Bay has nature's jacuzzi! Ask me when the time gets closer...
It does occur to me that you could also do the Malone to Greenstone leg as a day trip out of Malone at the end of the trip, if you hadn't considered that. About 16 miles(?) with a daypack instead of full pack and possibly extra water for Hatchet. Just a thought.
- Thanks for catching that—must have been thinking of the other end.
- The jacuzzi is nice, isn't it?
- When we do the route review, that sounds like something to seriously consider, and we will.

- There are no spur trails listed at Malone on the map. I'm likely to hike them anyway.
- Thank you! There will undoubtedly be ways to help with logistics, but I don't know what they are yet. So far the resupplies are covered, and while a couple of people have expressed interest in paddling with me on Passage Island day, until the date is much closer that's not quite dependable. While I'll be a more skilled paddler by then, will I be skilled enough to manage that on my own? Questionable. Otherwise, having hiking companions along the way may be a good way to support me.

Re: A comprehensive question
I was back by the jacuzzi this May, but skipped on the dip. If you come in from the other side of the river back up towards the falls, there is an audio trap set up on the back side of that large pond.Kelly wrote: Thu Jun 19, 2025 7:17 amIngo wrote: Wed Jun 18, 2025 11:25 pm I noticed you note a 1 night limit at Washington Creek, but the Greenstone says 3 (in case you don't get a camper cabin).

What's an audio trap?

Re: A comprehensive question
I'm sure you've seen the camera traps placed by the NPS to monitor trail activity. Their are also audio recorders placed in certain locations to record bird calls, nature sounds etc. the top has a wood cover that extends out to protect the exposed Microphone with its little foam windscreen.
I just happened to find my first one this spring while checking out the falls & the pond. It was pretty wet back there and It's likely a LOT harder to get around back there now once the bush has grown up a bit. I really feel I just need to spend a full season on the island roaming around
