Windigo to Rock Harbor

Four of us plan to hike from Windigo to Rockharbor . What route would anyone recommend? I've heard comments about the Greenstone Ridge. How is the Monong Ridge and comming up to Chickbone fornt McCargoe Cove? Any ideas on extra length. We are planning on 5 to 6 days. I've hiked Isle Royale before but only from Rock Harbor and only to Moskey Basin....which is a beautiful spot.

Tell us a little more... Are the other hikers experienced? Everyone a competent backpacker? What other backpacking have you done? When are you planning on going to IR??

Really there are two routes to get from Windigo to Chickenbone, and then a few options from there. Picking the wrong one would be a bad start to a trip, so thought we probably should get a little more info before setting your itinerary...

We are four women in our early 50's. All somewhat fit. We mountain and road bike. One women is leaving this week for the Minn Habit 500 ride. 500 miles in six days on road bikes. We have all backpacked before. This will be my fourth time to the island. The others have never been. We are still in the planning stages but some of us are set on traversing the island. We plan to arrive on a Monday and leave on Sat am, so 5 nights.
