As you come into Siskiwit Lake from the Intermediate Portage, there are groups of Islands you will paddle through that sometimes are the hunting grounds of lake trout. Also fish the area where the channel opens into Wood Lake, good luck!!!Buckwheat wrote:Name: Bill and Sylvia, John and Isabel

Lol, yeah, it is. Thanks for the welcome. I would love to read the log. I will most certainly post a report when I return. Especially since it is required

Re: 2009 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!
Thanks John - that is just the information I was looking for. It is good to know I don't need to go out into the middle of Siskiwit Lake, just in case it is a windy day. Bill, unless you are fishing early or late, the lakers are usually deep in summer. Try anyway, let us know how you do.
My favorite for pike is a Dardeville 5 of Diamonds and have caught many Siskiwit lakers on it a s well. If you get over to the MAlone BAy CG, go to the little cabin near the dock, there is a hydro map of Siskiwit.

PhilRanger, my wife and I are taking the VII over to McCargo Cove the same day you have listed. We are canoeing a route somewhat similar to your plans. Hopefully we'll see you on the VII. This is our first time going over from Grand Portage. Usually we have taken the Ranger to IR other than a couple of Queen trips many years ago. TrekkerJeff.

Hometown: Holmen, WI
Arrival Date: 8/14
Departure Date: 8/22
Coming From/Via: Houghton / Ranger III
Itinerary:
1st night- Sitting on the fence on this one. We'd like to make Tookers or Caribou. (Unless we hear it's unlikely there's a spot then maybe further south or head north? Weather dependent too. I'm a little worried about this. Or maybe we'll just get a cabin the first night.)
2nd night - Depends on what happens on the first night.
3rd night etc. Unsure as it depends again on availability and weather however we do plan to trip north and south using RH to refuel. Slight possibility of circumnavigating.
Last night - RHL Cabin
Notes/Other: Bringing our 18' boat aboard the Ranger III. Hubby and I are bring our two kids (college age) to show them where we met, while working for RHL, then fell in love, and became engaged that same summer. I am way more excited that I can tell you all!

Departure Date:Friday 8/21
Coming From/Via:Copper Harbor via Queen IV
Itinerary:
Sunday - Rock Harbor > Lane Cove - 8 miles
Monday - Lane Cove > Daisy Farm - 6.9 miles
Tuesday - Daisy Farm > McCargoe Cove - 8 miles
Wednesday - McCargoe Cove > Lake Richie - 7.3 miles
Thursday - Lake Richie > Three Mile - 10 miles
Friday - Three Mile > Rock Harbor - 3.8 miles
Total Approx. Mileage: 44
Notes/Other:This is our first trip to IR (Woohoo!), how's the itinerary look? We wish it could be there for a few more days, but that's what worked out. We were in Glacier NP a couple years ago and did a 90ish mile trip over 8 days...so this 'seems' like a walk in the park compared to that...lol. But we know better. There are always equalizers (skeeters, temps, rain, etc).
Been reading around the forums and there seems to be conflicting reports on the bugs. I was thinking of doing the permethrin soaking of clothes, is that effective against IR moquitoes???
Thanks guys
