Food thread?

Post by Nitsirk »

I am new here and have failed to find a thread regarding backcountry meals despite the tons of other useful info here. My hiking partner and I are always thinking of new recipes and ways to make our backcountry cuisine not so blah. I have tons of recipes to share but would like to see others meal ideas as well. Did I miss the proper thread or shall I start a new one? I did find a coffee thread that I participated in but haven't found much else regarding general meals.

Thanks all,
Nitsirk

By all means, start a thread!

This is a thread from the old forums:

http://www.isleroyale.info/cgi-local/te ... __Supplies

You can also look at backpacker.com. Lots of good ideas.

Welcome to the forums, Nitsirk!

This isn't a bad idea. We usually throw these types of suggestions up to the board to see how they feel about it. Would we want to see a permanent thread for recipes/food, or a complete new sub forum for it? A thread would appear, more than likely, under the Gear & Supplies sub forum, whereas an entirely new subforum would show up on the front page.

Suggestions or ideas?

I believe that a separate sub-forum for food would be a great addition. I’ve got almost all my gear for my first trip, I’m getting down to things like meal planning now…

I found this website earlier today…

http://www.onepanwonders.com

Many good recipes online and they offer a book, but the website has a lot.

Here is a great site for small amounts of condiments or recipe ingredients such as olive oil packets...

Sub-forum sounds good to me as well...it can include food packing tips as well.

Backpacking Chef: http://www.backpackingchef.com is a great site for menu ideas.

OH! You are my new hero. I've been trying to find a place I could get condiment packets... Without ordering 1000. I always felt sheepish grabbing extras from the deli..

I like the idea of a food thread. My buddy and I have a few things we always take to eat but, it would be nice to get some new ideas form fellow backpackers.

Well, I actually have some time to do some forum-related maintenance, so I read through all the suggestions and made some changes, including creating a Food & Cooking thread. You can find it here: http://isleroyaleforums.com/viewforum.php?f=15

We need some volunteers to moderate this thread, so let's see some hands!

(P.S., I also moved some food-related threads & posts into this subforum).
