Kind of funny:
"Must possess or be able to obtain state issued driver's license."

That is funny. You'd think that with all the other higher-level requirements, possessing a driver's license would just go without saying.

Rumor on the street is that Federal Stimulus dollars are funding the paving of the Greenstone Trail. They apparently are going to make it wide enough for standard cars and trucks, and there will be a daily shuttle between Windigo and Rock Harbor.

I was hoping for high speed rail.

Don't be silly. Then they wouldn't need a driver's license!I was hoping for high speed rail.

Someone has to drive the shuttle from the dock to the train station.

Won't they just run the tracks up between the Visitors Center and the store?Keweenaw wrote:Someone has to drive the shuttle from the dock to the train station.

Re: 3 vacancies - Isle Royale National Park, MI
I must be lucky but in 19 visits to the park I haven't met anybody who fits the description listed below from the job posting:
"Duties often involve working in isolated outdoor environments while exposed to severe weather conditions. Dangerous persons must be physically confronted, subdued, and apprehended many of whom are known to carry weapons. There is a high-stress component associated with much of the incumbent's work assignment."

I'll bet that is probably one of those "common" statements they put in all those type of job postings. I realize rangers have the potential to deal with those kinds of people anywhere, even on Isle Royale, however, like you, I have never come across anyone like that on the island. Everyone has always been very friendly.
