Wow! You'd pretty much be guaranteed a sighting with those numbers.

Seeing a moose is all luck. Being at the right place at the right time I've noticed is a requirement. There are often one or two around Washington Creek (Windigo). I saw 4 in '01, 3 in '06, zero in '07 and '09, but only 1 in '08.

I always say you'll see a moose when the moose want you to see them.
While I think 510 is an obviously low number for moose, and I don't know much about anything, I can't imagine 2000 was a healthy number either. I'm no good at math but that's a huge per mile ratio. On the other hand, moose numbers like that must have been healthy pickings for the wolf population. Sorry for stating the obvious this morning. Happy Earth Day.

Re: Report on latest IR Wolf/Moose numbers!
Last August while staying the night at siskiwit I saw a cow and calf from the shelter dead across the bay at the trail entrance
Just by luck I looked out the shelter and saw her moving along the shore line, I think I gave the other campers a heart attack when I realized the calf was behind her. Then the next night at feldtman lake I was visiting the shoreline at about 2 am and almost was run over by a bull moose trottin along the waters edge. It was only pure luck on this visit that twice I had the gift to see moose. Very close up I might add. MY boys were pretty mad I woke them at 2 am over the excitement.
