Lane Cove

Post by Tampico »

I can't seem to find much information on Lane Cove. Are there shelters? Pit Toilets?

Thanks all.

Beautiful waterfront campsites, pit toilets, no shelters or dock.

very nice sites on the water, incredible sunsets. Didn't do that great fishing but I also didn't fish that hard and didn't explore much of the west end of the cove. I did fall off a rock at the point on the cove entrance in some seriously deep water

I am planning to spend a night there mid August - Are the mosquitoes REALLY any worse there than any other campground?

Nah, other than Lane Cove tends to be more protected than other lakeside sites, and so the wind doesn't keep them at bay.
The great sites and sunset (comparable to a Moskey sunrise) are worth the hike in.

Thanks for the information.

I've amended my itinerary for my end of August trip to include a night on the hook in Pickerel Cove.

It was many many many years ago. Even though the campsite was close to the Lake, I remember Lane Cove to have been very enclosed. Almost like an arboretum. Even on a bright sunny day it was quite dark on the ground. Quite beautiful but not much breeze.

Is it still that way? Or maybe I have a bad memory?

Skibike69 - I am making my first trip to Isle Royale in mid-August as well and plan to stay at Lane Cove. I am thinking of making Lane Cove my first night on Aug. 19th. When will you be there?

Midwest Ed, There are a lot of trees at Lane Cove, but I found it to be a nice restful place. Lots of shooting stars the night I was there (2-3 a.m. however), seen from the shore.

Ed, they moved Lane Cove campground sometime between 1979 and 2000 (my missing I.R. years). Still wooded, but somewhat more open than the old one, I think.
