Book: Isle Royale (new publication)

I was playing with my new gadget and, out of sheer curiosity, did a search in the Kindle app for "Isle Royale." I was hoping for MikeT's book, but instead found the following:

Apparently it's a newer publication, just released in the last month (December 12, 2010). It's by a gentleman who lives on Minnesota's north shore, not far from me, named John Hamilton. You can read about him here: http://johnchamilton.com/about/

I downloaded a sample and started reading. It's interesting, at the very least, but I haven't got enough read yet to really get a feel for the quality of writing. From what I've gathered and synopsized, it's about the real Isle Royale on the real Lake Superior. There's still Rock Harbor and Windigo, even Mott Island (with a very well woven-in subplot about how Mott Island really got it's name, and how that relates to a character in the book). But one deviation: it's about a light house keeper & his family at a light house on Wolf Point (aptly named the "Wolf Point Lighthouse). From what I can tell, the best guess is that Wolf Point equals the Rock Harbor light, but I'm uncertain (hey, I only got to read a few pages).

I'm tempted to buy the digital edition (making it the first "e-Book" I've ever bought), but I'm curious if anyone else has read it yet. Feedback?

Hi Fonix. I'm the author of Isle Royale. FYI, the lighthouse is based on Split Rock Lighthouse. The plot required that my characters be totally isolated (the story is sort of a Key Largo on the Great Lakes, so I used my godlike authorial powers and plopped the lighthouse down on Isle Royale. But aside from the location change, everything is as historically accurate as I could make it (the story takes place in the 1920s).

I'll make the purchase tonight and provide feedback when I get around to finishing it. I'm unsure how I'll fair reading an eBook, but this is a good opportunity to give it a shot.

By chance last night I was looking at the referring sites to my own website, and saw this BB, which I'm happy to have discovered. Seems like a lot of nice folks in here.

LOL. I have never gotten used to page numbers being stripped out of ebooks. I wish there was a way to tag a spot in the book with a corresponding page in the printed version. But in this case, there is no printed version yet! Thanks for buying the book, I hope you enjoy the story!
