Summer 2010 Cruise
I have published a long narrative of my cruise by small boat (22-foot) to Isle Royale National Park from Copper Harbor, Michigan at
http://continuouswave.com/sail-logs/irnp2010/
The narrative gives details about the navigation, expenses, weather, places visited, and includes 131 photographs.
As many other trip reports have noted, the weather was a factor in our travels. While at the island we experienced a full gale, with winds recorded above 60-knots, waves reported to be 15-feet high, and many trees fallen. This was my first visit to Isle Royale, and we anticipate returning soon.

Jim,
Welcome to the Forums. Very detailed TR, love the pics. Nice to see places on the Island most hikers and even paddlers don't get to see.
Big fan of Whalers, love the pics from the Cetacea site. Always wanted a 27' Offshore.
Thanks for taking the time to write a detailed telling of your adventure.
John

Re: Summer 2010 Cruise
John--Thank you for the kind words about my narrative of our trip. Writing the narrative was almost as much fun (and as much work) as the trip itself.
We were fortunate to be able to circumnavigate the island on our first visit, and we hit all of the A-List places we wanted to see. Over the winter I have been doing more reading about Isle Royale, and, as I learn more about the place, the desire to return for another visit increases. I am certain we will make another trip there.

Re: Summer 2010 Cruise
Jim,
6 of my 7 trips to Isle Royale were backpacking trips. I did go up and down Rock Harbor this past August in a canoe (plus some hiking) giving me another impression of the Park. Your narrative and pictures give me another view point that I probably will never be able to attain. I enjoyed your report plus I too felt a strange feeling when visiting the research center across from Daisy Farm where the Peterson's spend their summers. Thanks for sharing! jerry

Jim -
Thanks for such a great perspective on IR. Someday I hope to be able to say I've traversed the Isle by pack, paddle, and pleasure boat.. I think I'll save the latter for last, since the thought of bringing a cooler full of great food would probably be the end of all future backpack adventures..
