Hiking with childeren
This summer will be our first time to IR . Going mid july, is it an all out run once the boat lands or are there camp site avaliable? Thinking about rockharbor, daisyfarm, moskey bay in 5 or 6 days with the kids.

100% random and unpredictable. However, you'd be going at the start of the busy season, so the probability of a full camp does get higher.
Yes, at least in terms of Rock Harbor, there tends to be a disembarkment blitz, especially by those in the know. Keep in mind that if you're taking the Queen, some of the folks at the RH shelters may be leaving later that day, and so it doesn't hurt to ask around the shelters if they are all appear full. Because of the nature of IR (distance between camps), in the event you get to camp and all the sites are taken, campers are asked to double up. It's not as if you would be without a place to stay.
Some folks will get off the boat and go to Threemile, Daisy Farm, or Lane Cove. All are within a distance that can be covered before darkness. Some will stay in RH. Thus, why it's entirely random and unpredictable.
I've spent a night at Daisy Farm in mid-June when there was just two sites taken. The ranger was noting how the night before, it was full. You CAN play a little game and predict where folks will be 1 and 2 days off a Ranger III arrival, but that's a game at best...
BTW, I'd highly recommend trying to get down to Moskey Basin, it's well worth the hike.

When I took the Ranger out in '07 3-mile CG shelters and tent sites were packed when I got there. There was no one up in the group sites, so I stayed at group site #1 that evening. In '09 and last year when I took the Queen over, I didn't have a problem securing a shelter at Daisy Farm on the first day. If you leave your camp site/shelter early enough in the day, you should get a nice place to stay that night at Moskey or anywhere else.
