Island Mine Water Availability?

Post by emerysar »

Has anyone recently been to IR in the Island Mine area? I'm headed there on July 24th/25th, and in years past I heard that the creek nearby was hit-or-miss on water.

Just wondering if I have to pack extra in from Windigo this year. I hope the creek is running near Island Mine...

Well, I was there at the end of August last year. It had rained for several days so there was plenty of water, too much actually. This is probably the worst campsite we visited on I.R. Badly torn up and abused by pyromaniacs.

My wife and I were there on July 10, and while the stream was small, there were enough pools for us to pump 5+ liters.

Just got back the last week of July 2010.

Water was there, but scarce... a couple trickles at best, but Katadyn Hiker did it's thing, and we had plenty to go around.

I agree with you, DonNewcomb--Island Mine was not the best stop on this year's itinerary according to me either. I think it would be pretty in the fall with all of the Sugar Maples turning, but it was kind of "blah" to look at last week...

My wife and I were there in Sept and there was a trickle. I used a cup to scoop it into my Platypus and that worked fine. You might want to take a little extra just in case.
