Doing the Windigo loops in less then two weeks and was wondering about availability of water.
Windigo to Island Mine - looks like a hard hike and dry
Island Mine to Siskiwit Bay - looks like plenty of water and down hill
Siskiwit Bay to Feldtmann Lake - Looks dry
Feldtmann Lake to Huginnin Cove - Long but lots of water
Huginnin Cove to Windigo - Going home
Temps look to be in the 60 - 70's when we go. Should we expect no water along the trail for some of these days? Thanks.

Re: Windigo Loop - Water Qu
It's been a while since I have done the Feldtmann Loop, so I'll let others comment on the water situation, but I can tell you that the Windigo to Island Mine section of the Greenstone is actually quite an easy hike. It trends uphill, but rather gently and with a very smooth "walk in the woods" trail. I'm 55 and not in super shape, but I usually pass the Island Mine turnoff and go straight to Desor right off the boat when I hike the Greenstone W to E.

I agree with Keweenaw. I did the loop in '06 when I was 62. Going from Windigo to Island Mine was easier then I was led to believe it would be. If you're in shape it shouldn't be too bad of a hike.

Re: Windigo Loop - Water Qu
Just got back from the Island, and did the Feldtmann Loop, only in the reverse order from you.
Windigo-Feldtmann... Plenty of good water opportunities, from the lake or Rainbow Cove
Feldtmann-Siskiwit Bay... Weird egg shaped globules (think tapioca) in the water, but otherwise drinkable.
Siskiwit-Island Mine... Virtually NO water, bushwhacked a bit upstream, but decided we would rather conserve what we had, than drink that nastiness...
Island Mine-Washington Creek... Not much along the Greenstone. This will be your biggest challenge, seeing the water at Island Mine is almost nonexistent...
Have a great time... Lucas is the man in the Windigo Visitor Center, great guy!

Re: Windigo Loop - Water Qu
Did the above hike and we just decided to weigh ourselves down a bit and take extra water and it is a good thing we did because some of the trails were very dry. Thanks for the help.
