Bob Janke obituary

Post by Keweenaw »

Hi all,

Isle Royale lost another icon a couple of days ago. Bob Janke had done research on the Island for around 50 years, mostly looking at post-fire vegetation. I think he was also a ranger or naturalist at one time.

I remember him as one of my Physics Professors at MTU.

Thanks for the update on Bob Janke. I first met Bob in his early years on IR, then as one of his physics students, then again on the Island from the 80's on. Whether in the classroom or on the island Bob was the consumate gentleman, always making time for a cordial and often informative visit. He will certainly be remembered for his conributions and dedication to IRNP.
[As I recall his interest in Botany seemed to center on blueberries an thimbleberries as late August approached.]
We will miss and remember Bob.
