Midwest Mountaineering Spring Outdoor Expo 2012 roll call

Post by fonixmunkee »

It's coming soon, April 27th-29th, 2012, Minneapolis. Anyone going? I'll be heading down, probably on Saturday. More info here: http://www.outdooradventureexpo.com/

Tom, are you going to present again? Or man a booth?

Anyone else going? Post here, maybe we can meet up.

Thanks for the reminder, Fonix - I called Capt Don, and Grand Portage Isle Royale is planning on having a booth, so I'll be planning to be there staffing during the event!

I'm also going to put an email into my contacts at Midwest, and see if they'd like an Isle talk or not; and if so, I'm certainly willing to give one. I'll let you know if that's a go.

I think a forum gathering would be fun. I've certainly enjoyed meeting those who've stopped by in the past, but maybe we can find a time we all get together.

If you do another ISRO talk, make sure they have a bigger room.

I think it was two years ago, a dozen or more folks were turned away! I was not happy.

We could certainly coordinate this. Let's see if you have a IR discussion first, that should bring some forum members out!

I'm up for meeting folks from the forum; hopefully I'll be bidding on a kayak that Saturday at the auction. The Expo is a must for any outdoor enthusiast!

Alrighty folks, I have a confirmation (and date/time) for the Outdoor Adventure Expo!

Come one, come all to: Kick if off your bucket list: Go Backpacking on Isle Royale
Time: 2:15
Date: Sunday, 29 Apr 2012
Location: (Expo) Hanson Hall, Room 108

This is general, "logistics" type talk that I've given in the past, basically detailing to folks how to plan a trip and what they need to know.

If forum members can make it, wonderful; and maybe we can still plan a social gathering for Saturday, if it sounds like people will be around. In any event, if you're going to be there, come find the Grand Portage Isle Royale Transportation Line booth and say hello. I'll be there along with my brother-in-law, Brent. (Capt Don will be up getting the boats ready - The first boat runs the next week!)

Hope to see you there!

It's always fun to present to a crowd... And I think we had close to 120 there, which is great to see. One of the guests was kind to let me know we even out packed Kevin Callan's talk, one of the headliners. A shout out to MikeT, as well, who provided some copies of his new e-book and laminated mileage charts, which I used to reward those with good questions. (Note: If you haven't checked it out, I encourage you to do so. It's a great perspective on the Isle, with all the details you need, and has some wonderful photos, to boot.)
I've said it before and I'll say it again; there is a thirst by the general outdoors community to learn more about Isle Royale. There is a mystery to it. They want to know how to get there, what they'll see, what they should do. I encourage any of you out there, if you're comfortable speaking in front of others, consider offering to your local establishments to do a talk. I have a couple presentations I'd be more than welcome to send your way to get you going. The NPS has been good about sending me general info to hand out, as well.
Last: Wonderful to meet several forum members at the talk and at CaptDon's GPIR booth. Also equally as nice to meet the 'lurkers' and future forum members. Remember what I told many of you; we don't bite, and this forum is a wonderful resource. So sign up now!
