Honeymoon at Isle Royale - Trail/Campground advice

Post by Paskinana »

My fiance and I are getting married June 23rd, and we're going to Isle Royale for a week for our honeymoon in late June/early July. We're currently thinking of starting at Rock Harbor, then staying at the following campgrounds (in order of our trip): Three Mile - Moskey Basin - Lake Richie - McCargoe Cove - Daisy Farm - Rock Harbor. We'd like to hike more secluded areas and avoid the busy campgrounds, so I was wondering if the west side of the Island would be better-suited for us. We could leave from Grand Portage in MN (it will add a few hours to our trip, but that's fine).
My question: is there a big difference in the volume of foot traffic between the west and east sides of the Island? Also, does anyone have any advice on campgrounds to avoid or that we certainly cannot miss? We're looking to hike around 6-7 miles a day, with a few longer and shorter days.
Thank you for your help! :D

Congrats on the Nuptials!!
The west end would have less people-you would have to hike further between campsites. The Fledtmann Loop is nice, and you could also include the Huginnin Loop.
I have not heard if there is water at Island Mine, may want to check on that.
Enjoy your trip!
