On June 22, I was camping at Moskey Basin. Late in the afternoon, while standing on the pier, I heard a series of barks coming from inland. To me, they sounded like a dog. The sound was not yips or howls, but a series of barks.
There were no boats around, so the sound did not come from a boater's dog, and the sound seemed like it was coming from a good ways inland in any case. Any ideas what this was? Do wolves "bark"? Foxes?

A fox will bark. They makes lots of different sounds.
Here is a google result on searching for fox barks. http://www.angelfire.com/ar2/thefoxden/sounds.html

I heard wolves barking at Siskiwit Bay in 2006. They were about 1/2 mile north of the dock there. One of the wolves was probably not happy seeing us down shore.

Re: Barking Sounds at Moskey
My son saw a wolf along the shore at Moskey late in June. I also observed and listened to foxes barking in that same camp last month. Generally, wolves bark as part of alert behavior so my guess is you heard a fox but who knows.
