Jimmy Dean sausage crumbles

Post by Jackfish »

Has anyone tried sausage crumbles on the trail? http://jimmydean.com/products/fully-coo ... e-crumbles

The package says to keep refrigerated, but wondering about their "staying power". Want to add to mac-n-cheese or rice. I suppose we could just eat it in the first day or two.

You could always dehydrate them if you wanted to err on the side of caution. I cook and then dehydrate hamburger and turkey sausage to add to meals and it keeps for months. Maybe it will keep longer, but it's eaten before it ever has the chance to go bad.

Walgreen's has started selling bacon jerkey under its Nice! brand. It needs no refrigeration once opened.

It's tasty but has a little too much fat for me. Don't know how good it would be fried or just heated for breakfast. Might be a little more tender.
