Thanks for the Itinerary help
Just back from my first Isle Royale trip and thanks to all of the great advice and help, the trip was an amazing adventure. Your ideas helped me plan and even tho we had some fog issues, I had plans B, C, D, and E ready. I am grateful for all of you on this forum...thanks again.

Re: Thanks for the Itinerary help
Hooray! Will we get to read a trip report about plan A, and the fog??
Re: Thanks for the Itinerary help
Plan A: arrive at Rock Harbor, rent a canoe, paddle across Tobin Bay and hike to Lookout Louise. We couldn't go because the fog 'grounded' all canoes and boats. So, instead, we hiked Scoville trail. The fog was amazing. It would come in and completely hide the trail, the lake, the rocks...just everything. Then, as quickly as it came, it would disappear. Day 2 we were going to rent a boat and go to Daisy Farm, hike Mt. Ojibway to Mt Franklin to 3 Mile Campground and back to RH. Fog again. So we hiked to 3 Mile Campground (RH trail) up to Mt Franklin back down to Tobin Trail and to RH. Day 3 rented the boat to Moskey Basin (saw the lighthouse and the Moose/wolf/fishery). The males fished Lake Ritchie (caught a Northern Pike) and the females hiked to Mt. Ojibway and they picked us up at Daisy Farm. Day 4 was our paddle across Tobin Bay and hiked to Lookout Louise. It was the most beautiful sight ever. We saw a moose (I think it was Bruce) at Rock Harbor and a young bull moose at Hidden Lake. It was a marvelous trip.

Re: Thanks for the Itinerary help
Glad you had a great trip! Did you get any views from Mt Franklin or Ojibway above the fog?

Re: Thanks for the Itinerary help
We did Mt Franklin in fog. MT Oijibway was clear and gorgeous. I have a fear of heights, but forced myself (step by step holding onto both rails) to the first observation level. It was so beautiful. I have to admit, I think the view from Lookout Louise is the best I've ever seen.
Re: Thanks for the Itinerary help
I have seen comments before that the view from Lookout Louise has become obstructed by the trees growing taller. I wonder if the tree growth has died back, or if the old views were just that much more spectacular? I was there 25 years ago and indeed I thought the view was spectacular! Lookout Louise is on my list for August this year! But I think Mt. Franklin is my alltime favorite "high point view" on the island. Another great spot not mentioned as often is the views looking around from the high open ridge about 1-2 miles southwest of Chickenbone Junction on the Greenstone Ridge. From there you see Lake Ritchie over to Siskiwit.
Re: Thanks for the Itinerary help
The view from Lookout Louise was unobstructed. It was foggy when I was at Mt Franklin. Daisy Farm was as far west as we hiked. Truly, there were gorgeous views no matter where I was. It is an amazing place.
