Cheapest path to Malone bay?

Questions about how to get to the island and where to stay near points of departure.

Cheapest path to Malone bay?

Post by Jfisher387 »

Me and a few friends are prepping for a canoe trip starting at Malone bay if possible. One thing that came up when we were talking is private charters to the island. Is there a page to find this? I see the main ferry’s don’t go to maple bay. But there’s a ferry that wraps around. Is there really no other way to and from Malone bay?

The two ferry/water taxi options to access Malone Bay are...

1. Voyageur II (Grand Portage MN). Circumnavigates the island clockwise in 2 days. --> https://www.isleroyaleboats.com/schedules.html
2. Water Taxi Services (Rock Harbor Lodge) --> https://www.rockharborlodge.com/water-taxi

Rates One Way: 21 - 25 Miles
Malone Bay, (22 miles)
One or Two people: $289.00
Three People: $301.00
Four People: $312.00
Five People: $324.00
Six People: $336.00

All Water Taxis are subject to weather and lake conditions.
Transportation of Canoes: The rate is the same as the one person rate.
There is a maximum of two canoes per trip.

What we did many years back.

Took the Queen over to the Island one day, took the Voyager to Malone the next day. Spent several days at Malone, then had a nice leisurely paddle back to Rock Harbor. All we had to do was to plan our schedule around the Voyager.
