Re: First Trip to IR! Advice welcomed!
Agree - the trail to Scoville Point is nice, but you will see plenty of great stuff, especially if you hit Moskey Basin and McCargoe Cove. Save Scoville Point for another time, or if you somehow find yourself with time to spare at the end.

Re: First Trip to IR! Advice welcomed!
I second a lot of Donk_67's and MikeT.'s advice. Although 11 miles doesn't sound like much, Moskey Basin to Rock Harbor will be a long, rugged hike. The trail is great, but I think it's best to break it up a bit. I would also bypass East Chickenbone if you can. (West is much nicer, but may not work ...

Re: Future of Wolves on IR, make your opinion count.
I emailed my thoughts and opinion last week. I had been waiting for the government shutdown to be over for a little while, so that my email hopefully wouldn't be lost in a sea of unread messages. It's nice that we've been invited to contribute to the decision-making process - I wonder how many ...

Re: Wolf Sighting at Siskiwit Bay on 9/7/13
The orientation I got this year was a little different from others. Ranger Valerie in Windigo said that wolves were getting too familiar with us and if we see any we should scare them away with as much noise as we can make.
That's interesting. During our orientation, she did not say that they ...

I enjoyed reading this report, although hearing about the annoying loud people at McCargoe was a bummer. I would like to stay at Todd and Little Todd sometime - it sounds like you had a good trip!

I loved your report! I actually said "No!" out loud when you discovered your pack weighed 65 lbs just before hiking to Lane Cove. Thanks for sharing your experience - I'm glad you enjoyed it and want to go back.

Brian,
Your photos are gorgeous! That moose encounter is really spectacular. Sounds like having that experience at the end made up for the crappy weather. Too bad your coworkers had all that rain on their first trip. We were there at the same time, but on opposite ends. The rain and fog definitely ...

Re: Stick Stove Suggestions and Reviews
We used an Emberlit Mini on our recent trip. It's made of titanium and weighs practically nothing. It has good air flow and a handy feed port that makes it very easy to continually add decent sized sticks. My sister also has an Emberlit UL, but the full sized version. I like them both and would ...

nice report so far... I look forward to the rest of it!
Only question I have is how do you get the peanut butter in those squeeze tubes?
Thanks! The tubes have wide openings at the bottom and you just spoon it in. Really heavy at first, but we eat it on the first couple of days so it doesn't ...

Re: Wolf Sighting at Siskiwit Bay on 9/7/13
Nina, you are so lucky to see a wolf again. My friend Jerry and I ran into you and Craig in 2009. We were headed to Lake Ritchie and you were heading towards W. Chickenbone. I remember you saw a wolf on the trail during that trip and got a picture. Can't wait to read your trail report and see the ...

Wolf Sighting at Siskiwit Bay on 9/7/13
Just got back yesterday from my trip. It'll be a while before I get a report written, but I wanted to share this highlight. On our 2nd night (Saturday, September 7), my husband Craig and I were at Siskiwit Bay at Shelter #5. I was sitting at the picnic table outside of our shelter reading, and a ...
