Re: Trip suggestions for end of September.

Another vote for the Feldtmann Loop, with a side trip to Rainbow Cove for a sunset. Thanks for the suggestion. Im going to look into this Rainbow Cove, sounds very nice. You're welcome. It's just a little spur trail from Feldtmann Lake. Flat and a quick hike without a pack. The best place for raspb...

Re: Fishing at McCargo Cove

I have posted this previously; when I am paddling I bring fishing gear, when hiking I bring an extra meal, instead of fishing gear.

$30 to $68 dollars will buy you a nice lake trout dinner at the restaurant in Rock Harbor!

Re: Comfort Items

If using the shelter for base, I would include a tarp for a wind break.

I used my tent as a tarp one night, at Todd Harbor shelter, to negate wind and sideways rain.

Re: Novice Backpacker in search of a Solid Meal Plan:-)

I know I have mentioned this site in previous posts on trail foods. http://shop.maryjanesfarm.org/Food Much better than mountain house IMO. One can't beat the organic sweet corn and black bean chowder, the lentil bisque is great, the fry breads are relatively uncomplicated if you bring a small fry p...

Re: "Planet friendly Gear"

In 2009 I observed a young couple coming from Lane Cove with a 2 burner Coleman(the fellow had it); we chatted for a moment at the 3 mi./Greenstone/Lane Cove trail junction. He had it secured a bit better than the scout. He told me they were boiling their water. I thought my Jetboil was heavy, compa...
