I apologize for the delays, but we didn't get back to civilization until late Thursday night and I really wanted to document this run well so that there would be no question on the legitimacy!
First of all, I wanted to say thanks to all of you for the information provided. It was very helpful to me ...

West end campground suggestion
Hello!
I am just making final plans for my end to end run of the Greenstone Ridge Trail (see here for details http://isleroyaleforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1894 and am looking at camp grounds after arrival at Windigo. Is there actually a campground there or is the nearest one at Washington Creek ...

Hello all!
For those of you that have been watching the forum in the last few months, you might have noticed that I announced my intent to set the fastest known time on the 40.1 mile Greenstone Ridge Trail (GRT) this summer. The specific date of the FKT will be Tuesday, July 10. Per the details ...

Re: GRT FKT - travel itinerary
Thanks IRR and fonixmunkee. Training has been coming along well... worked up to 90 mile weeks with just a few more weeks of training to go. I've been training in the heat of Alabama so anything cooler in Michigan will be a blessing. The excitement is building but I am trying to keep it all in check ...

Re: GRT FKT - travel itinerary
I appreciate the feedback Ed, but I don't want to have to pack up tent, and gear and mail it (35 pounds) Plus my dad said that he really wants to take the V2 along the eastern shoreline back down there so he can see more of the Island. So it is worth the $62 * 2 people to get back down there.

Re: GRT FKT - travel itinerary
Here is my final schedule, pending sea plane reservations which should come today. I have one question (in all caps, I am not shouting) below. Other than that, if any of y'all are out there on these dates, I'd love some company (at 10 minute pace) or if you are hiking either end and can drop any ...

Re: GRT FKT - travel itinerary
Thinking this through, the report from George's logbook indicate that the ranger ran from Rock Harbor to Windigo (pressumably using the Tobin Harbor Trail to Mount Franklin). This route is slightly shorter than running the entire Greenstone Ridge Trail to its terminus at the Hidden Lake / Lookout ...

Re: GRT FKT - travel itinerary
I have contacted the NPS for IR to inquire about who the park ranger might have been in 2008 for Amygdaloid.
I also searched through George's site (though I did not know him, I was saddened by his passing after all of his contributions) http://www.eagleharborweb.net/ and could not find any ...

Re: GRT FKT - travel itinerary
Yes I would be wearing GPS for distance/time but also be carrying a back up timing source (watch) just in case.
The report of "TheAmygdaloid enforcement ranger ran from Rock Harbor to Windego in 7hrs 8 minutes" is interesting. I would love to hear more about this to see how valid it was. I don't ...

There are "official rules" which are guidelines for this type of thing posted at http://fastestknowntime.proboards.com/
- Announce your intentions in advance. Like a true gentleman, pay your respects to those who came before you, and tell them what you intend to attempt and when.

Re: GRT FKT - travel itinerary
Boat rental is a great idea. My crew is only there to support me (its my Dad) and I am sure he would be willing as then he could hike up to Lake Louise and see me finish, take pictures, etc. I will add that to my notes.

Re: Backcountry Hiking...Thoughts and Advice Please.
As an ultrarunner I am looking to set the fastest known time on the Greenstone Ridge Trail. From my research, it looks like the fastest known time (FKT) from Windigo to Lookout Louise is 10 hours 17 minutes (but this is sketchy, with no official details behind the record, so its validity is in ...

Hello!
As an ultrarunner and having grown up in the UP and graduated from MTU, I have been fascinated with running the Greenstone Ridge Trail. From my research, it looks like the fastest known time (FKT) from Windigo to Lookout Louise is 10 hours 17 minutes (but this is sketchy, with no official ...
