If that's ordinary-old window screening, I'm going to guess about 3" across. That would have scared the crap out of me.

I think he was a bit bigger than that. That screen is the front of a shelter.

Re: Bug Situation

Hey, just following up. I put bug spray on 1 time while on the island for a week and that was when fishing Chickenbone at sundown. The leaches are pretty fierce and there were a ton of bees everywhere, but they never became a problem.

Re: Bug Situation

Heading up Sunday, I'll try to give you an update when I get back next weekend. Just hoping the forecast stays nice for my redemption trip so the boat can make it across on the first attempt.

Late August / Early September fishing

Would anyone happen to have experience fishing the island this time of year? I am most curious about what to expect in Moskey, Chippewa and McCargo in these late summer weeks.

Thanks

Re: Going Solo

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I haven't put much thought into the West end, but I think I'll give it a look. My main attraction to the other side is the inland lakes as I hope to get some solid fishing in, even if its wading or from shore. I soloed a few days in the Porkies last year, didn't see ...

Going Solo

Hey All, It looks like life is getting in the way for the friends I have that would actually partake in a trip to the Island, but since I have been there before, the urge to return has taken over. I went with a couple friends in August '10 and kayaked around from RH to Richie and back. This time I ...

Re: Inexperienced Individual With Canoe/Kayak Questions

Hey, Rafiki. Did you call Geneva Kayak Center? I'm in Chicagoland too and play around at their whitewater park in Yorkville. I know they do canoe and sea kayaking classes too http://www.genevakayak.com/courses/gkclevel1.html. Superior on a rough day in a canoe would be something else. If you go with ...
