I also see the Ranger III did not go out today.
It will be a messy day in Rock Harbor tomorrow with both ferries arriving.

Re: Horne Fire
We are scheduled on Voyageur II this Saturday to go to McCargoe Cove and sea kayak around Amygdaloids for several days and then hop back on Voyageur II to come around to Rock Harbor. However, now Lane Cove and Duncan all closed, so trying to figure out if we should cancel or re-plan the trip to a ...

Re: Horne Fire
I notice the park posted an update recently. The fire is 15 percent contained. They snuck the word suspected into this sentence now... "the cause of ignition is suspected to be lightning."

Re: Fire ban
The NPS has updated the status of the Horne Fire... Now at 200 acres and lots of closures. Winds were strong yesterday. Somebody on the Horne Fire thread posted photos from the seaplane this morning.

No ranger at Daisy Farm anymore either. He is now working down at Mott Island/Rock Harbor.
The Amygdaloid volunteer you are thinking of Rafiki.. possibly David Trigg? Also... I'm sorry to say but Ranger Seth is not on the island this year.

Re: Canoe rentals at Windigo
Hi PhilRanger-
This is true. The Store takes care of the canoe rentals and they also rent kayaks or motorboats. For a canoe or kayak it is $37.55 for a full day and $23.10 for a half. For a motorboat it is $77.55 for a full day and $43.10 for a half. A credit card is required.

Re: Trail maintenance?
Another thing worth mentioning is that a lot of the times the trail crew gets dropped off by boat (not at a dock) and uses "secret", more direct trails than the main hiking trails. Still a lot of work but usually a shortcut to get where they need to go.
