Re: Current conditions on the island
Take my .02 for what it's worth as I cancelled my trip (because we had to extend it further than family commitments would allow) on the first boat.
Weeks ago I wouldn't have thought that the island would be in as frozen of shape as it is, but here it is. Personally I would be shocked if there was still base snow on the trails and ice on the bays/lakes. That's not to say you couldn't get a snow equal somewhere but I would be surprised if there was accumulated or accumulating snow in early to mid June.
May 22 would likely be ok I'd guess but that's only 2 weeks away. The temps have been very warm the last few days and its scheduled for 62 degree rain tomarrow which will only help the melt down. After tomarrow it's a bit cooler but still warm.
I checked the satalite imagery again today and still see the lakes and bays iced up good. I'd be real curious how thick the ice is on inland lakes. Depending on the thickness, nite time temps and precipitation ice out could last for two weeks yet. A lot depends on how much insulating snow is on the lake.
Best of luck to those going to the island soon, I'll be looking forward to reports!

Re: Current conditions on the island
This is the one I use: http://ge.ssec.wisc.edu/modis-today/ind ... tion=1000m
All the inlands lakes along with Moskey Basin and most the of 'Fingers' still look frozen over.
It better hurry. I leave on the May 31st boat. I'm guessing most of it should be gone.......
The good news is that the bug situation should be pretty non-existant at that point......
I wonder how the late ice out will effect the fishing.....

Hey ETB
The site that I use doesn't want any kind of linking to websites, and in fact says it's forbidden to do so. So I can't post a link to it, but if you're to hypothetically Google something like Coast watch Modis you might find an interesting link to click on.

Tightlines01, I was using the same site as you, but for some reason, it has not been updated since 5/5, so I went searching for another.....

Re: Current conditions on the island
johnhens,
There is some really funny Ernest T. stuff on YouTube. I remember thinking he was just hilarious as a kid. I was shocked to find out (on www.imdb.com, which is Internet Movie Data Base....trust me, you can waste A LOT of time on there...) that out of 249 original Andy Griffith episodes, Ernest T. was only in 5 of them!!! When a character is THAT memorable, that is really doing a great job. I was thrilled that I could find an avatar to use that fit the size on these boards. After our first visit to Isle Royale last fall, I thought to myself, that is one wild place. So I had to become the wildest person I could think of to be on these forums. It was a no brainer!!!

One of my good friends, who I met on IR by the way, his kids sang ET's song, including tuning on the jug, when he is wooing his Charlene. I fell off the table I was laughing so hard. This was at McCargoe!!!Ernest T Bass wrote:johnhens,

OMG that is hilarious! There is a YouTube video of that song. Makes me laugh out loud every time I see it. Still chuckling at your response, as I picture this kid doing it as well....
We had better knock it off, as we've (mostly me) kind of hijacked this thread. But it really did give me a good laugh. Hopefully for others too, and maybe there are some young 'uns out there that may not know about Ernest T. Bass. Hopefully they will visit YouTube to see him in action!
