Hey Folks, just a friendly reminder that the intent of this thread is for itineraries only and not discussion, to keep it "clean" and easy for folks to see who's on the island when and where. From Tom's original:

Once finalized as best as possible, post your itinerary, and then look around the list at who may else be enjoying a trip at the same time. It's a great way to make new friends on the Island.

My wife and I are backpacking Isle Royale for the first time. After finishing Pictured Rocks, we decided Isle Royale would be our next big trip. I have done many hikes in Hawaii, Florida, Utah, California, Colorado, and Michigan but I have never been this far North. My wife and I will both be carrying packs weighing less than 20 pounds with water. We have three days hiking more than 11 miles so we are testing our limits tomorrow. If we can’t finish 13 miles in six hours in the 90 degree heat of Florida with 30 pound packs, we might change our itinerary. As of right now, this is the itinerary we are set on.

My wife and I are backpacking Isle Royale for the second time (we did the counterclockwise Feldtmann Lake loop last September), and this time we are bringing our 24 year old daughter. We wanted to do a longer trip, and Mrs. Bass wants to through hike the island. We wanted to include the FLL, since we liked it so much. My wife and I are both 51. We are currently hiking with simulated pack weights to get ready, I will be about 40 pounds and the two of them will each be at about 24 pounds (this includes all gear, all food, and daily water).
I tried to get a nice mix of inland lake camp sites and Lake Superior camp sites. Also, I tried to either stay or hike through many of the places that forum members speak of so highly. We also have some things in the schedule that are elective and could be omitted if we needed to shorten our distance, such as the two day hikes toward the start, and also going via Mt. Ojibway near the end. If something wild happened at the start of the trip, we could always omit the Feldtmann Lake Loop.

Notes: After several hiking trips, a lengthy canoe trip filled with portages and a power boat excursion to The Island, I’ve decided to see things from yet another perspective, from a beach front, lake shore lodge room. I’d prefer a little more spontaneity and this itinerary may be a bit too detailed but the various boat trips on the MV Sandy do require reservations. I think there will be ample room for shifting the schedule around based on weather, photo opportunities, berry picking, mood, etc. I may even tire of Lake Superior fish and feel the need to change up a bit to burgers and pizza. . . .but I doubt it. If you’re passing through Rock Harbor that week, stop by and look me up, if you can find me.
