Has anyone tried sausage crumbles on the trail? http://jimmydean.com/products/fully-coo ... e-crumbles
The package says to keep refrigerated, but wondering about their "staying power". Want to add to mac-n-cheese or rice. I suppose we could just eat it in the first day or two.

Re: Options: Windigo to Rock Harbor
Dates aren't set yet, but probably leaning toward late June to sometime in July. Neither August or September will work with our schedules.Rafiki wrote:Out of curiousity when do you plan on going?

Options: Windigo to Rock Harbor
Doing some thinking about possible end-to-end routes. I know it's not rocket science, but would like some feedback on a couple areas. A possible route: Sea Plane to Windigo, then... ~ Feldtmann ~ Siskiwit Bay ~ South Desor ~ Hatchet Lake ~ McCargo (via Minong trail) ~ Moskey Basin ~ Rock Harbor Sea ...

Re: Greenstone Ridge Trail fastest known time (FKT) attempt
I've heard of people attempting speed records through the Boundary Waters or Quetico, too. As much as I admire great physical feats, I just don't get speeding through paradise. It takes planning, preparation and mental toughness - I get all that. I guess I'm just into smelling the roses and enjoying ...

Re: Some route questions
Your post leaves me wondering whether (1) she's an experienced B'packer going to IR for the first time, or (2) taking her first b'pack trip ever. If (2), be modest in your goals. And allow time for when things do not go according to plan.. As of today, it's the latter. Isle Royale will be her first ...

A question about Siskiwit Bay & McCargo
When I see Siskiwit Bay and McCargo Cove campgrounds on the map, it says "no alcohol". It doesn't matter to me either way, but why does it say that for those specific campgrounds? I can only guess that that it's directed at the boaters? If that's the case, you'd think there would be several more ...

Re: Shelter Graffiti
Good grief, man... l can't believe you're taking the time to write a legal journal supporting graffiti in the shelters. (And no, I didn't take the time to read every word.) For the life of me, I can't understand what would possess someone to write on the walls in the first place, let alone the crude ...

Our likely itinerary is posted in the "Trails and Campsites" section. http://isleroyaleforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1376
We're planning to start at Windigo, do the Feldtmann trail, on to McCargo, then finishing the hike at RH.

Going in August
My wife and I have been looking at our schedules and have decided that our trip this summer will have to be in August - August 13th-20th, specifically. (We briefly considered the 3rd week of September but decided against it, mainly due to the weather.) Is that week of August still considered the ...

Re: Some route questions
Thanks for the responses so far. If it makes any difference, we're planning to go to IR in mid-to-late August or September. There are some variables with our work schedules that will play into when we go, but it will definitely be sometime during this timeframe.

I'm doing some meal research for our trip this summer and that is funny, probably because I wouldn't starve either.TomM1940 wrote:I typicaly live off of body fat and have yet to starve.

Some route questions
Hi all, Thanks in part to the outstanding presentation given by JohnHens and Ranger Greg Blust at Canoecopia (along with some subtle encouraging over the years), my wife has committed to a backpacking trip (her first ever) to IR. I know she'll enjoy the trip thoroughly because of the beauty of the ...
